# Building a Crypto Trading Signal Bot from Scratch — A Freelance Engineering Journey The result is a multi-layered Python trading system deployed on Microsoft Azure Container Instances, delivering real-time trade signals to subscribers via Telegram. **At its core the bot does three things:** It scans 60 of the most liquid cryptocurrency perpetual futures pairs on Bybit every 15 minutes, aligned to candle closes — not a fixed timer. It applies a nine-gate SMC rule engine across three timeframes simultaneously. And it delivers fully formatted trade alerts, complete with entry levels, stop loss, take profit targets, and market condition data, to subscribers who have authenticated through a 30-day password security system. ## The Technical Stack ``` Language: Python — async/await (asyncio + aiohttp) Exchange: Bybit REST API v5 Infrastructure: Microsoft Azure Container Instances Messaging: Telegram Bot API Data: Pandas, NumPy Storage: Azure File Share (persistent), pickle cache Security: SHA-256 password hashing, per-user expiry tracking Cost: $0 in third-party API costs --- ## The Architecture That Makes It Scale The most important architectural decision was separating signal delivery from signal generation entirely. The scanner produces a signal. The notifier delivers it to channels. Those two concerns are completely decoupled. When the subscriber base grows from 10 to 10,000, the scanner still makes exactly three Telegram API calls per signal — one to the public channel, one to the trial channel, one to the paid channel. Telegram handles distribution to thousands of subscribers natively. The Azure instance never touches individual user delivery. This means the infrastructure cost and complexity at 10,000 subscribers is identical to what it is at 10. --- ## What I Learned Building This Every non-trivial engineering project teaches you something you did not expect to learn. This one taught me several things. Deterministic rule engines are underrated. There is a temptation in modern development to reach for a language model whenever you need "intelligence." For trading signals, a well-designed rule engine is more reliable, faster, cheaper, fully auditable, and produces consistent results. The bot makes the same decision given the same market structure every single time. That predictability is a feature, not a limitation. Infrastructure is the difference between a toy and a product. Getting the analysis logic right was interesting. Making it run reliably on a cloud container with persistent storage, health checks, log rotation, secret management, and automatic restarts is what makes it a real product that real users can depend on. What would a polynomial-time RSA factoring algorithm actually mean? Not just for cryptography — for geopolitics. Let me pose a thought experiment that's been occupying me. Imagine a research team — somewhere — demonstrates a classical algorithm that factors RSA keys in O((log N)⁶) time. Polynomial in the bit-length. The math checks out. The immediate instinct is to frame this as a cryptography problem. "We'd need to migrate to post-quantum standards." True. But that framing undersells what's actually at stake. "In research" doesn't quarantine the implications. It sharpens them. Here's what most commentary misses: the asymmetry of exploitation. A new nuclear weapon requires uranium enrichment, specialized facilities, delivery infrastructure. A polynomial-time factoring algorithm requires a laptop and patience. The gap between discovered and exploited is not a deployment gap. It's an awareness gap. Consider what this would mean in practice. Nation-states and intelligence agencies have spent years archiving encrypted internet traffic under the assumption that they can't read it yet — the "harvest now, decrypt later" doctrine. A working factoring algorithm retroactively unlocks that archive. Diplomatic cables. Financial transfers. Medical records. Strategic communications. Not future traffic — past traffic, already collected, already waiting. The geopolitical question isn't "who would be disrupted?" Everyone would be disrupted. The question is who would know first, and for how long. History suggests that the most consequential intelligence advantages are precisely the ones that aren't announced. This is where responsible disclosure norms — admirable in the context of software vulnerabilities — become genuinely inadequate at civilizational scale. NIST's post-quantum cryptography standardization process ran from 2016 to 2024. Eight years of full public coordination. If a factoring breakthrough were disclosed before that migration was complete, the announcement itself would become an exploitation window. So what should a researcher do? I don't have a clean answer. But I think the field needs to have this conversation explicitly — not just about the mathematics, but about the governance frameworks that don't yet exist for results of this magnitude. The complexity class O((log N)⁶) is a mathematical statement. The decision about what to do with it — if it ever exists — is a political one. And right now, our politics are not prepared for it. What's your read? Is there a disclosure framework that could actually work here? #cryptography #cybersecurity #RSA #postquantum #geopolitics #infosec #research #GLHF
