What can your country’s DPI story help others learn? The value of sharing a Digital Public Infrastructure story goes beyond showing what was built. It helps others understand what changed, what made change possible, and what lessons were learned along the way. Ahead of the 2027 Global DPI Summit, national governments are invited to submit stories on their countries’ behalf. Country experiences shared through this call will help inform the wider DPI community, from the challenge addressed and what DPI enabled, to evidence of change and the choices that shaped implementation and adoption. Safe and inclusive digital public infrastructure requires more than technology. Safeguards, governance, and sustainable financing need to be built in from the start and sustained over time. At the 2026 Regional Digital Public Infrastructure Forum in Santo Domingo, governments and partners from across Latin America and the Caribbean exchanged experiences on DPI governance, interoperability, digital public goods, verifiable credentials, and proactive public services. As Secretariat of the DPI Safeguards Initiative, UN ODET joined the Forum as a strategic partner, contributing to discussions on how safeguards can be embedded throughout the DPI lifecycle. A central question was how safe DPI can be financed at population scale, beyond initial technology investments, to account for inclusion, data protection, oversight, user support, and redress. With appreciation to the Government of the Dominican Republic and all Forum partners for an important regional conversation on building DPI that is safe, inclusive, and sustainable. #DigitalCooperation #SafeDPI

Human agency starts with individuals and extends through communities and nations to democratic accountability. At a #UNGA81 discussion hosted by the Permanent Mission of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the United Nations with Prime Minister Rob Jetten on democratic agency and AI development, UN Tech Envoy Amandeep Gill highlighted how individual agency extends through communities and nations, underpinning democratic accountability and the protection of human rights. A key missing piece is capacity. Countries need to be able to understand, test and evaluate AI in their own contexts, and make informed choices about whether to buy, borrow or build. “Agency ladders up from the individual level to communities and nations, to the global community, and leads us to democratic accountability, the protection of human rights, and the prevention of loss of control,” Gill said. #AIGovernance #DigitalCooperation

"An extraordinary window of opportunity that will not stay open for long." On CNBC, UN Tech Envoy Amandeep Gill noted that leading AI companies are now calling for global coordination on safeguards for technology they do not fully understand or control. He stressed the need for global minimum standards that work across China, the United States, Europe and elsewhere, including on capability thresholds, pre-deployment evaluation, safety incident reporting and independent testing. The Envoy said the UN's Independent International Scientific Panel on AI brings scientific evidence to policy discussions, and that the next step is for Member States to act on it. 🎥 Watch: https://lnkd.in/gVN2b7KU #AIGovernance #DigitalCooperation

🚨 Final call for applications. The next phase of DPI safeguards is about turning principles into practical, sustainable implementation. The 2026-2027 DPI Safeguards Working Groups will focus on four implementation challenges: 🔹 Costing & financing: How can we ensure critical safeguards are properly budgeted and sustained? 🔹 Institutional coordination: How should responsibilities and decision-making be distributed across government? 🔹 Partnerships & governance: How can innovation, participation and accountability be built into implementation? 🔹Monitoring & learning: How can safeguards be measured, strengthened and adapted over time? Applications are open to those with country-level implementation experience or expertise in financing, governance, public administration, civil society, technical implementation, or audit. 🔗 Apply by 27 September at 12 PM EDT: https://lnkd.in/dHwWNtKM #DPISafeguards #DigitalPublicInfrastructure
