Most of my recruiter network has never placed a candidate in AI safety. I'd like to change that. I'm at Constellation Institute, a field-builder working at the intersection of emerging technology and existential risk. We run convenings, incubate organizations, and help mobilize the talent that this field desperately needs. The field is growing and the stakes are not abstract: AI capabilities are advancing faster than our ability to govern them, align them, or even fully understand them. One of the biggest bottlenecks to closing that gap is recruiting capacity itself. Before you can grow a field, you need people who know how to find, assess, and close the right talent. That gap affects everything i.e. research velocity, institutional capacity, the field's ability to move at the pace the moment demands. If you're an experienced recruiter, there are real ways to engage: - Full-time embedded roles across the ecosystem - Contract or fractional work - Fellowships to learn the field and contribute through a structured program The roles span the full range of what it takes to build a field: programs, operations, technical and research, strategy and policy, and senior leaders and founders. Many organizations in this ecosystem are growing their teams for the first time and would benefit as much from experienced recruiting guidance as from hands-on support. You don't need to already know much about AI safety. The best fits tend to be people who bring rigor, comfort with ambiguity, and a desire to do work that's genuinely important. The field is small enough, and the need urgent enough, that the right people joining now could shape how the whole ecosystem develops. If any of this resonates — drop a comment or send me a DM. ✉️

There are more good policy and technical ideas ready for implementation than there is coordination ability and political will to implement them. The funding landscape is expected to expand over the next few years, but without the people to deploy that capital effectively, it stays inert. The ecosystem has a lot of people who are great at thinking about ideas. We need more people who are great at thinking about people and projects. • We have some exciting news to share: Constellation Institute, alongside Kairos, is launching the Generator Residency! Generator is a new program that brings 15-30 residents to Constellation for the summer to work on fieldbuilding and infrastructure projects for AI safety. How it works: • Residents spend the first few weeks writing project pitches, meeting the Constellation network, and building context on the field. • They spend the rest of the program executing projects (solo or in groups), supported by seminars, 1:1s with generalists at orgs like Redwood Research, METR, and AI Futures Project, and deep dives into current technical and policy work. • During and after the program, we help residents find roles at impactful orgs, spin their projects into new organizations, or get their work acquired by existing ones. 🚀 Applications are now open for Constellation Institute's Astra Fellowship! Astra is a fully funded, 5-month fellowship at our Berkeley research institute, where 300+ AI safety professionals work every week. Fellows pair with mentors across empirical AI safety research, strategy, and governance. 📅 Applications close May 3rd (cohort begins September 2026) 📖 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5Z4NFRq We're halfway through our current cohort and the results are already exceeding expectations: 🔹 A hackathon side-project for 10 fellows that led to one of the first independent safety audits of a frontier open-weight model 🔹 Fellows clearing entire backlogs for the field's largest grantmaker and getting early offers to join their team 🔹 Astra fellows briefing senior international policymakers on their research 🔹 Strategy fellows publishing tone-setting pieces on where AI is going One thing that keeps standing out: Constellation's in-person network has been deeply valuable for fellows directing their thinking about where the world with increasingly advanced AI is headed. That's making Astra uniquely well-placed to train up strategy talent ahead of mass research automation. We're also partnering with OpenAI to support the new OpenAI Safety Fellowship. OpenAI fellows will be hosted at Constellation alongside Astra Fellows, working on external safety and alignment projects. What Astra offers: 📍 5 months, in-person at Constellation (Berkeley, CA), fully funded 💰 Stipend + ~$15k/mo in compute expenses 🎯 Job placement with mentors or support finding roles elsewhere in AI safety 🌱 Incubation support if you want to start your own org Over 80% of our first cohort now work full-time in AI safety - at Redwood, METR, OpenAI, Anthropic, DeepMind, CAISI, and more. With several hires before the halfway point, the current cohort is on track to match or beat that. Prior AI safety experience is NOT required. If you're motivated to reduce risk from advanced AI and bring technical or domain expertise, we want to hear from you. 📅 Applications close May 3rd (cohort begins September 2026) 📖 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/g5Z4NFRq P.S. If you applied before and weren't accepted, we encourage you to apply again - especially if you've done relevant work in the meantime. And if you're wondering what happened to the fieldbuilding stream - we'll have news on that soon 👀

  • Two days left until Astra applications close! ✨ The final application deadline to be considered for the Astra Fellowship is this Friday, October 10. We would love for you or anyone amazing you know to apply: https://lnkd.in/gJBsDewH We’re excited to receive your applications—and to see the impact we'll make together with Astra 2026! https://lnkd.in/gpRR9ncW

We’re really excited to announce that we are relaunching Astra! ✨ Astra is Constellation’s fellowship to accelerate AI safety research and careers. Fellows will go through a 3-6 month, fully-funded program at our Berkeley research center, designed to accelerate projects and place exceptional people into long-term roles that tackle the risks of advanced AI. Over 80% of Astra’s first cohort went on to full-time roles in AI safety at organizations like Redwood Research, METR, Anthropic, OpenAI, CAISI, and UKAISI. With this cohort, we hope to help even more people find roles in high-impact safety teams, or launch their own initiatives to solve important but neglected areas of the field. 📖 Learn more about the Astra Fellowship: https://lnkd.in/gJBsDewH 👉 Apply here by September 26, 2025: https://lnkd.in/gEu8J-Nq
