My name is Georgios (George) Vassilakis, and I'm a PhD Student at the University of Cambridge studying machine learning and astronomical imaging within the Institute of Astronomy and the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP). Previously, I was at Northeastern University in Boston, researching weak gravitational lensing with NASA's SuperBIT telescope, and studying Applied Physics with a minor in Data Science and a concentration in Astrophysics. I was also an intern at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in the summer of 2025, where I simulated dark matter subhalo detection with strong lensing for the upcoming Habitable Worlds Observatory.
- Currently developing TheCube: a continuous spatio-spectral field of the multi-survey sky. The repo is still in stealth, but expect a paper on ArXiv in September!
- Lead developer of the NASA JPL HWO-SLAPS pipeline, which serves as a hub for simulating and detecting low-mass dark matter subhalos in strong gravitational lensing systems for the upcoming Habitable Worlds Observatory. This work will be an upcoming paper in the RAS Techniques & Instruments (RASTI) journal, and will be on ArXiv in early September. Stay tuned!
- Lead developer of the SMPy project, which provides an accessible and modular Python toolkit for mapping dark matter distributions using weak gravitational lensing data from astronomical surveys. Journal of Open Source Software (JOSS) paper has been accepted and is currently in corrections, and will appear on ArXiv soon. Stay tuned!
- Contributing developer to the superbit-lensing analysis pipeline, which aims to measure galaxy shapes from NASA's SuperBIT Telescope observations. This pipeline produced the simulations for Lensing in the Blue II, and was used in scientific analysis for Lensing in the Blue III. Lensing in the Blue IV will use SMPy to create mass maps of these galaxy clusters. Stay tuned!
- Developed Scientific Machine Learning pipelines (coupled Deep Operator Networks) to model the governing physics for solid-state batteries, as part of the Juner Zhu Group.

🚣 I row for Churchill College at the University of Cambridge!
🏋️ I was a nationally ranked Olympic-style weightlifter for Northeastern University's Olympic Weightlifting Team! I built and maintained the site for our team's weekly programming. You can find the link here!
🎸 I've played both electric and acoustic (Flamenco) guitar for over 9 years!
