Note, I can get project-related queries to work in GraphQL requests that are using the Classic Tokens, just struggling with the finely-tuned newer PATs.

Same question here, I have tried to create PAT with access to certain Repos and access to Projects -> Kanban boards to be able to update tasks statuses etc., but I cannot find the relevant permissions category for this in PAT. It works with Classic tokens, there I can see project permissions scope.

For anyone else struggling with this, you need to select the "Organizations" tab to see Projects:

so I guess you cannot set this with a personal Github account? I do not have an organization tab and Projects doesnt appear under Account

Pretty disappointing that it's June 2026 and this is still not available for personal Projects.

This really would be a big improvement in the agentic world. This seems like a bug more than anything else...
