I've been using it for almost three years now, and it genuinely gets better every update. It's still not 100% perfect, such as Pixel HDR not being present but that's not entirely in their control. Backing up and sharing photos/albums without it being on the "cloud" or requiring an account really is unbeatable. I have it through a reverse proxy so others can access it, but for personal use you can use Tailscale.

Works very well and is fairly easy to set up. Hardware acceleration was a little more challenging, but I got it working in the end - and I'm no tech genius by any means. The machine learning search is one of the very few compelling uses for AI I've seen thus far, and I'm happy putting my photos through it as it's all run locally and not on "the cloud". Excellent work from the Dev team, keep it up!

Immich itself is genuinely good and I have nearly fifty thousand photos in it, so this is only about the mobile backup. If you are uploading an existing library it runs only while the app is open, and it stops the moment your phone locks. That is a fair design choice, but nothing in the app tells you. No warning, no notice, no notification. I lost hours in Samsung battery settings before a GitHub issue told me none of it could ever have helped.
