Article Writing Expansion Worksheet — Child Labour

Grade 8 | CBSE English | Word Limit: 200 words
Instructions: You have already planned your article in class. Use the boxes below to expand each planning point into full,
connected sentences. Write neatly in the space provided — this will become your final article.

Name: ______________________ Class & Sec: __________ Date: __________

Step 1 — Craft Your Headline

A good headline is short, catchy, and hints at your stand on the issue. Write two options and circle the better one.

Step 2 — Expand the Introduction (Hook)

• Where did you see children working? (shop / small factory / restaurant / dhaba)
• What exactly were they doing, and how old did they seem?
• How did the sight make you feel — shocked, disturbed, guilty?
Now write this as 3–4 flowing sentences:

Step 3 — Expand: What Your Sister Told You

Industry Hazard / Unhealthy Condition

Safety matches Constant exposure to phosphorus fumes; risk of fire and burns

Bangle-making Handling molten glass and sharp edges; cuts, burns, eye damage

Firecrackers Handling gunpowder and chemicals; risk of explosions and toxic fumes

Pick at least two industries from the table and write them up as a paragraph, in your own words, as if reporting what your
sister told you:

Step 4 — Expand: The Impact on Children

• Loss of education — no school, no future opportunities
• Health risks — long-term illness, injury, stunted growth
• Loss of childhood — no time to play, rest, or simply be a child
• Exploitation — long hours, little or no pay, unsafe wages
Write this as a paragraph:

Step 5 — Expand the Conclusion (Call to Action)

• What should the government do? (strict enforcement of the Child Labour Act)
• What should factory owners and shopkeepers do?
• What should ordinary citizens do? (report violations, refuse to support child labour)
Write a strong, appeal-based ending:
