Literature Review

The concept of study habits focuses on the student's performance in school. It is the
students' hard work and effort to achieve better academic performance in their studies.
Study habits are part of a student's everyday life in school. It contributes significantly to
the development of knowledge and perceptual capacities. Study habits tell a person how
much he will learn, how far he wants to go, and how much he wants to earn. In this study,
the results showed a significant effect of study habits and academic performance of the
students.
Various factors such as emotional, environmental, biological, social and psychological
factors influence study habits of students. Personal factors like intelligence, self-efficacy,
self-esteem, self-confidence, learning strategy influence the study habits of students.
Emotional factors like motivation, responsibility and persistence influence study habits.
These factors determine the study habits of a child. A highly motivated student with
responsibility and persistence adopts good study habits as compared to a less motivated
and lazy student.

According to Kumar (2014) stated that study habits and career maturity had significant
and positive correlation. Students with good study habits were found more conscious
about their career. Moreover, female students were found high on career maturity than
males. Specifically, study habits had a significant effect on career maturity among senior
secondary school students.

Another Study According to ‘The Journal of Social Sciences Research 2019’ Good study
habits are the gateway to a successful achievement in studies. A good study habit towards
any subject is a combination of discipline, passion and strong will to achieve a better
academic performance. This study aimed to determine the effect of study habits of
Accountancy students in Ramon Magsaysay Technological University (RMTU) towards
their academic performance.

Study habits are the most important predictor of academic performance and global
research has revealed that study habits affect academic performance. In this regard,
medical students are faced with a large amount of information that is difficult to organize
and learn, and requires knowledge and application of study skills. Evidence suggests that
learners who do not have enough information about study strategies do not attain
effective and stable learning, and therefore will not have an appropriate level of academic
achievement. In other words, students with better academic achievement use these skills
more than those with lower academic performance.
