Robert Bohne reposted thisRobert Bohne reposted thisConfession: I have a Kubernetes pet peeve, and it's very specific. 😅 I see people say "CRD" when they mean "CR." Constantly. In talks, in diagrams, in docs that get it right in one sentence and wrong in the next. Here's the two-second version, because it's actually a fun distinction once it clicks: 🔷 CRD (CustomResourceDefinition) = the blueprint. It teaches Kubernetes "hey, here's a new kind of object, and here's its shape." 🟠 CR (Custom Resource) = the actual thing you build from that blueprint. The YAML you apply. Classic mix-up: someone points at a `kind: Application` manifest and says "here's the CRD." That's a CR! The CRD is the (much less glamorous) object that defines what "Application" even means to the API server. CRD is the class, CR is the instance. Made a little visual for it because I'm apparently passionate about this 👇 If you've got other "small but mighty" K8s mix-ups people make, drop them below. Robert Guske hat einen komplett disconnected OpenShift-Cluster dokumentiert: 3 Nodes, Agent-Based Installer, alle Images aus einer lokalen Quay Mirror Registry, gespiegelt mit oc-mirror v2. 👏 Der ehrlichste Teil ist das Troubleshooting-Kapitel. Sein Cluster hing im Status "insufficient" – Ursache war ein doppelt vergebener Hostname. Genau solche Details stehen in keiner Doku. Pflichtlektüre, wenn bei euch air-gapped auf der Roadmap steht. Relocating to a new country is a major personal milestone. It can easily feel overwhelming, but having the right environment and culture behind you changes everything. I’m deeply grateful for the incredible support I’ve received - not just from my family and close friends, but also from Red Hat. Staying in my current role, with my manager Bill Morkan, and alongside the same brilliant team (Angela Muñoz Alonso, Steve Gaines, RUFFSTONE GmbH, Jen Gardet) I’ve worked with over the last few years made the professional transition surprisingly smooth and effortless. But perhaps the most meaningful milestone of all: after a long time, my husband Guenter Herold and I are finally living in the same country ❤️ - and, of course, my dog Lotta made the move right by my side! 🐾 She’s already settling into her new Austrian routine and enjoying the fresh surroundings just as much as we are. I’m truly appreciative of a company culture that trusts its people and supports them wherever life leads them. A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this move possible. Ein Stückgutfrachter von 1958 als Konferenzlocation — passender geht es kaum, wenn man den ganzen Tag über Container spricht. Sebastian Scheele hat den Tag eröffnet und direkt geliefert: #KubermaticAI ist ab heute verfügbar. Im Anschluss die Demo gemeinsam mit Mo'ath Qasim — LLM-Zugriff als Kubernetes-Ressource, Modellkatalog, alles über die gewohnte Plattform-Oberfläche. Kein Konzeptpapier, sondern etwas, das man sich anschauen und anfassen kann. Bemerkenswert fand ich, wo Sebastian im Welcome eingestiegen ist: bei den Preisen. GPU-Kosten, Speicherpreise, die Frage, was KI-Infrastruktur in den nächsten Jahren tatsächlich kostet. Genau das ist die These, die ich seit Anfang des Jahres unter dem Titel #RAMmageddon verfolge: DRAM plus 170 Prozent, NAND plus 75 Prozent, Server 15 bis 20 Prozent teurer, rund 70 Prozent der Chips gehen an die Hyperscaler. Wenn ein CEO das ungefragt in seine Eröffnung nimmt, ist es kein Nischenthema mehr, sondern angekommen. Wer heute eine KI-Plattform baut, entscheidet nicht über Architektur, sondern über seine Kostenstruktur für die nächsten Jahre — und zwar besser aus einer Position der Kontrolle heraus als unter Druck. Danach die BWI GmbH mit ihrem Defence Innovation Center und der Cloud-Native-Strategie. Zu sehen, was dort mit Kubermatic im Betrieb ist, war der ehrlichste Teil des Vormittags — konkrete Ergebnisse statt Roadmap. Und das war erst der Vormittag des Kubermatic Day 2026. The talks were excellent. Deep, technical and full of things I could actually use. But what really stayed with me were the conversations around them, where people spoke openly about what works and what does not. Those gave me plenty to think about and a head full of new questions. There were so many more people I wanted to meet, but the days were just too short. Three more days would not have been enough. Next time for sure 🙌 🔹 One Platform Could Not Fit Them All by Annika Opitz & Artem Lajko One platform never fits every team, but letting each team build its own quickly turns into chaos. Their answer is Kubara: an open-source framework that gives teams a shared, ready-to-use Kubernetes base in minutes, so everyone starts from the same solid ground instead of reinventing it. 🔹 AutoPiloting Kubernetes: How We Built Autonomous Control Planes by Dario Tranchitella & Gianluca Mardente Running thousands of clusters by hand simply does not work. Their "autopilot" idea lets clusters set themselves up and fix themselves. Kamaji runs the "brains" (control planes) of many clusters together in one place, so spinning up a cluster is faster and cheaper. Sveltos then makes sure each cluster automatically gets the right add-ons, matched by simple labels. And it holds up under real pressure. A recent large-scale test kept fleets running on a fraction of the memory other tools needed, staying stable past 4,000 apps across 1,000 clusters (link in the comments). 🔹 GitOps at Scale: Why Your Hub-and-Spoke Architecture Is a Security Risk by Artem Lajko & Gianluca Mardente We reach for one central hub because it feels simple but that hub holds the keys to every cluster. Break in there, and you get everything. Their fix flips it around: each cluster pulls what it needs instead of the hub reaching in. Simpler, and a lot safer. What started ten years ago as a community gathering in the Hamburg harbor, initiated by Kubermatic, has become one of Europe’s leading cloud native conferences. This year at Schuppen 52, right on the waterfront — including a stage aboard the historic MS Bleichen and a new co-located track dedicated to AI agent infrastructure. A personal highlight: great conversations with our customers, and with Julian Hansert and SebastianSebastian ScheeleScheele , the founders of Kubermatic. Ten years ago, they bet on Kubernetes before most enterprises knew how to spell it. Today, their platform is recognized by Gartner and Forrester — engineered in Hamburg, deployed globally. What impressed me most: the container stack and the AI stack are converging. The questions on stage and in the hallways were no longer “how do we run Kubernetes?” but “how do we run AI workloads efficiently, securely, and sovereign — on our own terms, on our own infrastructure?” GPU sharing, multi-tenancy, governance, model serving at scale: this is where cloud native meets enterprise AI. And this is exactly where I see enormous potential for our customers in Germany: Dell Technologies’ AI-ready infrastructure combined with a sovereign, open source Kubernetes and AI platform from Kubermatic. On-prem, edge, hybrid — with full control over data and costs. Digital sovereignty is not a buzzword. It’s an architecture decision. And the building blocks are here — some of them made in Germany.
