Stop. claude-keepalive wraps the CLI in a PTY, detects the limit message, sleeps until the exact reset time, then auto-resumes your session. No manual restarts, no lost context. ⚡ What it does: - Wraps `claude` in a PTY so the interactive TUI works exactly as normal - Watches for the session-limit message and sleeps until reset - Auto-resumes the same session, falls back to `--continue` when needed - Pure Python stdlib. Fabio Cicerchia posted thisTraditional data centres run at a PUE of 1.5 to 1.8. Hyperscale runs closer to 1.1. That gap is mostly cooling, eating up a third of the power bill 🌡️ PUE is the first metric worth learning, mainly because it's the one your provider already publishes. 🔧 The formula is nothing fancy: PUE = Total Facility Energy ÷ IT Equipment Energy A PUE of 1.0 would be perfect, meaning every watt entering the building does actual computing. Nothing hits 1.0. A PUE of 2.0 means half the power is doing something other than computing, mostly cooling, then lighting and power conversion and the rest. There's a sister metric, DCiE, which is just the same number flipped into a percentage. PUE 2.0 is the same as DCiE 50%. Same information, friendlier on a slide. The handy part is that PUE is one of very few sustainability numbers that's already measured and published, and it's comparable between providers too. You don't have to build anything to get it. ➡️ Try this: look up the published PUE for your cloud region. Two minutes, and it's often the first honest number a team has ever had. You picture "a server" as a box. The real unit is a facility with its own substation. Training one large model, tuning and search included, can cost the same energy as a hundred US households use in a year. That happens routinely, in parallel, across hundreds of companies, re-run every time someone tweaks a hyperparameter. Stop training casually. ➡️ Do this now: instance type × hours × TDP (Thermal Design Power). That's your last run's kWh. Now add the run that produced nothing useful. You've had one. Fabio Cicerchia liked thisFabio Cicerchia liked thisI put an e-reader on the kitchen wall. It shows what electricity costs right now. We're on a spot contract, so the price changes every hour. That lives in an app, and an app means nobody looks. It's an Xteink X4, about €70, running community firmware. Every hour it wakes up, downloads a picture from a small server I wrote, draws it, and goes back to sleep. E-ink keeps the image with the power off. The server does the work. It fetches the day-ahead prices, compares this hour against the rest of the day, and marks the cheapest three hours for the dishwasher. The reader just draws what it's handed, so I can change how any of it works without touching the device. Press two buttons and it's a normal e-reader again. No idea yet whether this is useful to anyone but me.
