Oliver Hsu reposted thisOliver Hsu reposted thisToday, we’re launching Foundry Management, formed by Andreessen Horowitz and Atlas Holdings LLC to help founders build AI companies inside the industrial world. The hardest constraint in physical-world industries is often not the technology, but getting close enough to mission-critical work to understand what should be built. That understanding lives inside operating businesses, in equipment, workflows, and the knowledge of the people who keep them running. Foundry gives you a place to begin. We recruit a small, select group of some of the top technologists and give them premiere access to the Atlas portfolio, representing $26B in annual revenue across steel, metals/mining, automotive supply chains, energy, and logistics. You'll work alongside the operators and management at these businesses to build products and technologies that unleash AI in these industrial contexts. When it demonstrates the potential for an independent business, a16z and Atlas will support its creation, with you leading it as founder and CEO. You don't need to arrive with a finished idea. You do need technical depth, curiosity about how industry works, and the ambition to build something people will depend on. There's a great deal of the future left to build inside the industries already around us. Come build it with us: talent@foundrymgt.com

Oliver Hsu shared thisOur investment in Foundry Management, a company creation platform for the intelligent industrial age. We Andreessen Horowitz have long believed in the opportunity to deploy the most advanced technologies into America's largest industrial businesses. Doing so at the scale that reindustrialization demands, however, requires a level of trust, access, and context difficult for most early-stage founders to obtain. Earlier this year, we teamed up with our friends at Atlas Holdings LLC, who represent ~$26B in annual revenues across metals, mining, automotive supply chain, paper, food, energy, and logistics. We started with a blank page and worked to design the best way to accelerate technologists deploying AI into industrials businesses at real scale from day one. The result is Foundry Management, a platform for those building AI for the industrial world, from inside the industrial world. Backed by a16z and Atlas and led by CEO Arye Barnehama, Foundry brings a small number of exceptional technical founders onto the platform and deploys them into some of the largest industrial businesses via Atlas’ portfolio. Working alongside the operators, technicians, and management at these businesses, these founders will establish the foundations to spin out as an independent company. We believe that some of the most transformative technology solutions will originate on the factory floor of enduring institutions. If you want to build the intelligent industrial age, Foundry wants to hear from you. talent@foundrymgt.com

Oliver Hsu reposted thisOliver Hsu reposted thisWe just raised a $7.5M pre-seed led by Andreessen Horowitz to build a robotic surgeon at Aleph Much of the early investment in Physical AI has focused on industries where labor is relatively abundant and low-cost. We believe the biggest opportunities to change the world lie at the opposite end of the spectrum. Surgery is among the most valuable forms of labor on the planet, but its far too scarce and expensive - due to an exceptionally long training pipeline and highly concentrated expertise. We’re building the first surgeon that scales: one system that can acquire, refine, and transfer surgical skills across millions of procedures. v1 is already learning to perform surgical tasks autonomously from demonstrations, and improve from its own experience. Oliver Hsu reposted thisOliver Hsu reposted thisWe've raised $1.1B for a16z's newest fund: the Machine Age Fund. It's time to open the throttle and accelerate the physical buildout of AI: the strongest tool ever developed for solving problems and bestowing abundance. It is our social and national imperative. This fund will invest into all of the computer infrastructure on which AI runs, including chips, memory, networking, and storage. It also includes full systems for running AI: from data centers to robotics to home AI appliances. While we at a16z are generally known as software investors, we've never been religious about it. In 2016, we led the series A in Skydio; we invested in SpaceX; we wrote our first check into Anduril Industries in 2019, and were among the first venture investors in Waymo's 2020 raise. Hardware is in our team DNA, and it's great to get back to our roots. Ambitious founders who are reinventing AI hardware and founding the machine age, please reach out. We're ready for you.

Oliver Hsu reposted thisOliver Hsu reposted thisToday, Hadrian is announcing our Series D: $1.37 billion in new capital at a $7.87 billion valuation to Reindustrialize America. Thank you to all our investors. WCM Investment Management, Washington Harbour Partners LP, Valor Equity Partners, 137 Ventures, and Baillie Gifford led the round. JPMorganChase's Strategic Investment Group acted as anchor co-lead, investing through the firm's Security and Resiliency Initiative. The round also included major participation by 1789 Capital, as well as participation from Morgan Stanley Wealth Management, Apollo Global Management, Inc., T. Rowe Price, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, Lux Capital, Altimeter, CapitalG, Construct Capital, and existing investors. This round confirms our belief in a few simple things: America needs to Reindustrialize, Physical AI is real, transforming the world of atoms matters 100x more than the world of bits, and, most importantly, that the New American Workforce is the center of everything we do. We're significantly increasing the equity stake of technicians at Hadrian. As the country reindustrializes a trillion dollars worth of capacity, we intend to build a company that works for everyone. It's been a big year, and there’s even more ahead. We launched F3 in Arizona, announced F4 in Alabama as a $2.4 billion public/private investment, and began work with the Army on depot operations at Red River in Texas. Factories as a Service is booming. Opus, our physical AI platform for manufacturing and supply chain autonomy, is being utilized across the Primes and Services to address the industry’s toughest challenges: legacy TDPs, digital twins, factory management, embedded automation and more. We’re growing rapidly. We've been building out new capabilities, and are moving quickly across autonomous welding, inspection, energetics, casting, forging, assembly & integration, electronics, additive, sheet metal, pipe & tube, NDT, and more. We're expanding internationally, with small teams across Australia, NATO, the UK, and Asian allies like the ROK and Japan. And we're expanding our footprint domestically too, with a new HQ in LA and an SF R&D hub to be announced. We’re partnering up with the best of the best. To scale across critical areas like Munitions, we're integrating the top advanced manufacturing startups and companies into Opus and Factories as a Service to ensure customers get the best solutions for their needs. Ten teaming agreements already signed with some of the most impressive companies in the space. All this is to say: it’s time to build. If you want to do the hardest work of your life, creating American jobs rather than destroying them, we need you: hadrian.co/careers

Oliver Hsu reposted thisOliver Hsu reposted thisToday, we're launching Base Core, our own battery designed & built in Texas, and announcing our $1B Series D to bring it to homes across the country. Three years ago, we started Base with a belief that batteries were the unlock to energy abundance. We saw battery storage as the foundation of a modern energy system, and believed we could win the market with vertical integration, technology, and relentless execution (what we now call Base Pace). So we set out to build a network of distributed batteries to deliver affordable, reliable electricity to homeowners and utilities. While the job is far from finished, the launch of Base Core is the most meaningful step in that plan. We’ve spent the last few years learning hard lessons about building a distributed battery fleet, going from 1 install per day in June of ‘24 to 100 installs per day in June of ‘26. These lessons - how the battery is shipped, installed, used, and monitored - informed the design of Core. Now, Core will be the foundation of the company's next phase of growth. Base Core is a first-of-its-kind home battery. At ~40 kWh it is 3x the size of most home batteries, providing up to 36 hours of backup for the average home. In the event of multi-day outage, Core is equipped with a (first of its kind) generator port - pull out a small portable generator and charge the battery back up to keep your home running as long as you need. When an outage does happen, the backup is seamless - most members won't even notice the grid went down. It's built to withstand Texas summers, Chicago Winters, and everything in between. And finally, it’s manufactured by our team in Austin, at Base Factory 1, right across the street from our HQ. This new capital will bring Core to more homes and to accelerate our ambition beyond batteries. The round is co-led by Ribbit, Addition, Valor, and JP Morgan, with participation from new major investors D1, Sands, Coatue, Layer Global, and Energy Impact Partners. All of Base’s major existing investors are re-investing, including Thrive, Altimeter, Lightspeed, a16z, CapitalG, Trust, and more. This brings our valuation to $13B. Electricity is the largest and most essential industry in the world, and it does not have a defining technology company. The company that delivers the most affordable, reliable power will be one of the largest and most impactful companies in the world. We intend to build it. If you'd like to join us, reach out. Onwards. https://lnkd.in/g57sTXTh

Oliver Hsu liked thisOliver Hsu liked thisUpSmith has raised a $10 million Series A to power the people who power America. We’re betting this round on electricians, plumbers, and HVAC techs who keep our country running, as we believe skilled workers like them will be among the biggest beneficiaries of AI. We started UpSmith with a focus on upskilling a new generation of builders. We quickly learned the fastest way to create those careers is to help trades companies grow, and AI made that possible at scale. Today, we’re building an AI profit engine for the trades. Our AI agents deliver insights, answer calls, book jobs, close estimates, renew memberships, and bring back customers who went quiet. Companies across the country rely on it: HomeTown Services recovered 5,000+ jobs from unsold estimates this year. Five Star Home Services cut cancellations 34%. Medley Heating Air Conditioning Plumbing added $147,000 in new revenue in three months. When trades companies grow, they add trucks, open locations, and train more workers. In the process, AI helps contractors produce more good jobs, not fewer. We see a future in which millions of builders earn more and serve people better as a result. Thank you to Allison Baum Gates and SemperVirens VC for leading this round and sharing our vision. Grateful to our existing partners Kate Beardsley and Jessica Peltz-Zatulove at Hannah Grey VC, Rob Biederman at Asymmetric, and Jeff Rosenthal at CIV for doubling down on our mission, too. We are happy to welcome new investors Tim Tebow and Joel Chakra at WaterStone Impact Fund, Pantelis A. "Pete" Georgiadis and Andreas Georgiadis at Synetro Group, Doug Deason and Scott Letier at Deason Capital Services, LLC, Colin M Evans at Sandwith Ventures, Zachary Bookman, and many others to our team. More thanks in the comments. If you run a trades business and want to fuel growth, let's talk. And if building alongside the best trades contractors in the country to solve a societal challenge fires you up, we're hiring across every role from our Dallas HQ: https://lnkd.in/gXsyRf-t

Very excited about our investment in Positron AI through Palo Alto Growth Capital. Having invested in AI infrastructure companies including Groq and Cerebras Systems, I have had the opportunity to watch how this market develops over multiple technology cycles. What makes Positron AI particularly remarkable to me is the speed. In roughly 3 years from inception, Positron AI has reached a level of revenue that took some of our prior successful portfolio companies approximately eight to nine years to reach. That is an extraordinary pace of commercialization and a strong signal of how quickly the AI inference market is developing. Congratulations to Mitesh Agrawal and the entire Positron AI team on the $875 million Series C. I am excited that Palo Alto Growth Capital participated directly in this round and very much looking forward to the next chapter. #ArtificialIntelligence #AIInfrastructure #AIInference #Semiconductors #VentureCapital

VC investment in robotics and physical AI has increased from $4.2B in 2019 to $26B in 2025 — and $23B has already been invested in just the first five months of 2026. The Wall Street Journal recently highlighted what we've seen for years — the great rotation back to atoms. For much of Silicon Valley, this is a pivot. For Prime Movers Lab, it has been the thesis since 2018. We've spent the last eight years building conviction—and a portfolio—in the companies the rest of the market is now racing to find: Figure, E-Space, Commonwealth Fusion Systems, Hark, Gilgamesh Pharma, Tarana Wireless, Focused Energy and many more tackling the hard, important problems across energy, transportation, manufacturing, human augmentation, agriculture, and infrastructure. We welcome the company. The Great Transformation is finally arriving in capital flows. Read more in WSJ: https://on.wsj.com/4x9LmKw

Congratulations to Mitesh Agrawal, Thomas Sohmers, and the entire Positron AI team on their fundraise! When DFJ Growth co-led the Series A, what excited us was the opportunity to rethink hardware for AI inference: an architecture built around the memory bottlenecks that constrain performance, with the potential to make running models substantially faster, cheaper, and more energy efficient. A big part of the bet was on the team. They were operating at lightning fast timelines, and over the past year we have had a front row seat to their relentless execution. Their drive and ambitious engineering goals have translated into real customer deployments. The inference wave is here and we believe the next generation of specialized chips will enable the future of agentic applications. Proud to continue backing Positron on the next chapter. SF VC Takeaway #2: Pricing expectations, performance bars, and what’s actually getting funded. One theme that came up repeatedly in SF was how far pricing expectations and performance bars have shifted, even compared to just a few years ago. A few things investors kept anchoring to: 1️⃣ Median Series A valuations are higher than their 2021 peaks, but fewer of them are getting done. 2️⃣ Capital is being concentrated into fewer and fewer companies (and lots of capital!) 3️⃣ “Good” progress is no longer enough and the bar for standout performance has moved in an AI-native world So what does “top performance” mean right now? One investor told me that top quartile seed companies in their portfolio are going from $0 to $2M in ARR in <12 months. Outside of pure traction numbers, a few other themes that came up to describe "top performance": 📈 Explosive early revenue ramps (or a very credible path to them) 📊 Strong velocity and momentum for 2 quarters in a row, even if the baseline is small. 🚀 Clear signals of category leadership, not just product-market fit. Sometimes shown by either domain expertise, speed of product optimization, or by lack of competition in the category. This creates a counterintuitive dynamic where it can be easier to fund a company with strong pedigrees in a hot space and no traction yet than a company that went from 0 to $1M ARR at what used to be considered a rapid pace. Pricing today is driven by trajectories, not moments in time. We used to say investors invest in lines not points; I think that's more true than ever now because crossing certain milestones doesn't carry as much influence as it once did. Finally, investors still say that valuation matters, but many of them are acting differently. Pace and belief in category-defining companies really sets the price; while slower growth gets scrutinized rather than discounted. One silver lining in the camp of durable growth: Series A rounds are happening so fast that many companies don’t yet have meaningful history of retention data. Large bets are being made on velocity before the durability is proven. Several investors told me the same thing: we may soon swing back to a market where retention, not growth, becomes the defining metric. Let's hope so. I'll share my third SF VC takeaway tomorrow!

A big milestone today for Grow Therapy, which just announced a $150M Series D led by TCV and Growth Equity at Goldman Sachs Alternatives, with BCI and Menlo Ventures joining Sequoia, Transformation Capital, and SignalFire. When we led Grow’s Series A in 2021, it was rooted in a belief that mental health access in the U.S. isn’t hindered by supply, it’s a systems problem. To win, Grow needed to be deeply integrated into the healthcare ecosystem, not operating as a point solution. In just 5 years, more than 2 million people have used Grow, with over 10 million therapy and medication management visits delivered on the platform. What stands out is the infrastructure the team has built: Grow now partners with 125+ health insurers, including Medicare and Medicaid across most states, reaching 220 million covered lives. At the same time, tools like its clinically-guided AI notetaker are reducing provider documentation time by nearly 70%, helping clinicians focus more on care. This is what durable healthtech looks like: deep payer integrations, measurable outcomes, and technology embedded directly into existing healthcare workflows. Excited to continue partnering with Jake Cooper, Manoj Kanagaraj, MD, Alan Ni, and the entire Grow team as they build trusted mental health infrastructure for insurers, employers, health systems, and most importantly, patients.

Thrilled to announce that Together Fund is investing in Sentra, alongside a16z speedrun! You track results in Jira. Decisions in Notion. Conversations in Slack. But the reasoning, the debates, trade-offs, and context behind why you chose A over B, disappears into what we call "Dark Matter." A decision made in March looks insane by July because no one remembers the constraints that made it smart. I lived this firsthand at Twitter scaling from 800 to 8,000 employees, and at Google while launching AI Overviews to billions at planet scale. The problem isn't process. Process is compensation for something deeper: organizational amnesia. An organization’s "Systems of Record" doesn’t solve this, they encode it. They store what happened, never why. That's why we are investing in Sentra. Sentra is the always-on collective memory that eliminates organizational amnesia by maintaining accurate context for all members and agents, functioning as an operational nervous system. It connects to every channel where work happens, meetings, Slack, email, code commits, docs, calendars, and treats them not as artifacts to search, but as living signals to synthesize. The fleeting and the permanent, unified into a memory that understands. The founding team is built for this: - Jae Gwan Park (CEO): Product-first founder, memory systems research at UofT and MIT - Ashwin Gopinath (CSO): Former MIT professor, created "Reflexion" (NeurIPS 2023), agents that learn from mistakes, 2x founder - Andrey Starenky (CTO): Early Vapi engineer, ex-IBM, built to process enterprise-scale data firehose Together is an operator-led fund. We invest in problems we've lived. This is one of them. Many congrats Jae, Ashwin and Andrey, we are so excited to partner with you!
