The promise of a personal AI agent is that it learns you over time: your projects, your preferences, the context behind every decision. But today's models aren't built to accumulate an organization’s worth of information. They either reread the entire history to produce each new word, which gets expensive fast, or they summarize it and lose the details that matter later. At Percepta, we've built a new architecture, Spotlight, that moves growing memory inside the model itself. Every token reads from and writes to an unbounded memory, but only touches a few memory cells at a time, so more knowledge doesn't mean more cost. The model decides what to store, what to recall, and what to overwrite. To show what that makes possible, we ran a full Python interpreter inside a transformer that installs new packages into its own memory and upgrades them in place, all without changing its weights. Hemant Taneja, CEO of General Catalyst, joined Hirsh Jain at the Percepta office for a fireside chat on the state of AI and venture 🪵 Hemant talked about the moment ChatGPT launched. It was the first time a single technology had every CEO, in every industry, in every country, grappling to figure out what to do with it. For General Catalyst, that came with a recognition: the world was going to be transformed, and the real question was what role to play in that transformation. The principle of "inclusive prosperity," where you empower everyone to do the transforming themselves, ties closely to Percepta's mission 🌏 That's why we started with healthcare, government, and financial services: the categories that actually touch people's lives. And Hemant's bet, one we share, is that as software gets democratized, relationships become the advantage that's left standing.

Alexandra Tupta, an assistant nurse manager at Summa Health, used to manage 90 employees' schedules by hand, every week, recalling each person's shift preferences, vacation times, and specialties from memory, all while making sure the result was fair and equitable to every staff member. The manual paperwork and cognitive load took away from the most important part of her job: responding to urgent needs across her floors and supporting her staff and patients. Now, Tupta spends a fraction of that time a week on the schedule. Our team built Nightingale, the first agentic nurse scheduling system, and shipped it to nurses at Summa in twelve weeks. At Percepta, we're not running a pilot in one department. We're rebuilding the operating model of a 130-year-old hospital system from the inside, with research, product, and engineering working as one team, and we have ambitions to bring this to health systems worldwide.
