I just topped up my investment in SimpleX Chat, and while I do agree wholeheartedly with the mission of Simplex Chat, my investment really comes down to one thing: the founder. Back in 2013, I started working alongside Evgeny Poberezkin at MailOnline. He was a senior engineer and a natural leader on our team as we built a new CMS for the site. Together, we helped double the productivity of the journalism team by building what our CTO at the time called the most complex system engineers ever get to build. Later on, when Evgeny needed a JSON schema validator for a side project and couldn't find one good enough, he just built his own. People laughed at Ajv initially. Today, it has over 1.3 billion monthly downloads on npm and powers a massive chunk of the web. That is just who he is. When he approached me in 2022 with SimpleX Chat, he simply laid out what he was building and why it was important. He was not pushy at all. But I already knew how 100% invested he gets when he tackles a problem. I jumped in as an early angel investor without hesitation.
