Offering artists from around the world an opportunity to push boundaries, experiment with new ideas, & take risks.
About us
The Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco (ICA SF) is a non-collecting art museum that offers artists from around the world an opportunity to push boundaries, experiment with new ideas, and take risks. We believe in the power of art to explore the most critical social, political, and cultural questions of our time and are committed to expanding the art historical canon of the future. Building upon the lessons learned in our early start-up years, ICA SF remains continuously “under construction,” embracing a nimbleness rarely found in art institutions. We seek to make contemporary art relevant and meaningful for all audiences. Admission is always free.

ICA SF is entering a bold new chapter with our Nomadic Model, a radical evolution that allows us to fulfill our mission by expanding into compelling architectural and historical spaces across San Francisco. “Arts and culture are essential to San Francisco’s recovery, and the Institute of Contemporary Art San Francisco is a beloved destination for creativity, community, and culture. Its presence in the Cube has brought new energy to our downtown over the past year and helped to revitalize the heart of San Francisco. I’m thrilled that ICA SF's plans for multiple activations and installations will continue to play a vital role in our downtown recovery," said Mayor Daniel Lurie 丹尼爾·羅偉 this wonderful article by Tony Bravo and San Francisco Chronicle. Beginning early 2026, ICA SF will activate sites around the City with museum-scale and site-specific exhibitions, partnering with SHVO, Port of San Francisco, Dogpatch Power Station and San Francisco Art Week to curate shows by artists Lily Kwong, Tara Donovan, Dominique Fung, and Heidi Lau, including a SFAW nine-day public lounge and cultural hub at Transamerica Pyramid Center supported with grants by The Svane Family Foundation. Thank you for being part of this defining moment in our history, including our partners at the City and County of San Francisco, Kelsey Marie Issel, Emily Counihan, Michael Martin, Enrique Landa, FIFTH SPACE (formerly Associate Capital). With your support, ICA SF will soon belong to the entire city. https://lnkd.in/e9E6Hm_R
